How it is made
The raw gum is harvested from acacia trees, cleaned, and either milled or spray dried into powder. Nothing is added: acacia fibre is a single ingredient product, and the quality of the powder comes down to the quality of the gum it started as. Ours starts as grade one Sudanese gum arabic.
How it compares to other fibres
- Dissolves completely. Unlike psyllium, it does not thicken or turn to gel, so it disappears into water, coffee or a smoothie.
- Slowly fermented. It is a slowly fermentable soluble fibre, which is part of why many people find it easy to take.
- Single ingredient. Just milled acacia gum, a soluble dietary fibre.
- Neutral. No flavour, no sweeteners, no additives.
UK government advice is to eat 30 g of fibre a day, and most adults eat well under that. A spoonful of acacia fibre is one easy way to add soluble fibre to a daily routine. Start with a teaspoon a day and build up gradually, as with any change in fibre intake.
A note on origin
Most acacia fibre sold in the UK gives no origin beyond "acacia". Ours is Sudanese hashab, from the same gum belt that supplies the world's food industry, sourced through family and established export channels we know personally.
